Al Jazeera announced that five of his journalists, including a well -known correspondent for his spectators, had been killed this Sunday, August 10 in an Israeli strike in his store in Gaza.
“Al Jazeera Anas Al-Sharif, a journalist was killed with three colleagues in what seems to be an attack directed Israeli, said the director of the Al-Shifa hospital in Gaza-Ville,” the channel based in Qatar said.
The Israeli army confirmed to have pointed to Anas Al-Sharif, which described as “terrorist” that “pretended to be a journalist.”
He “was the leader of a terrorist cell in the Hamas terrorist organization and was responsible for preparing rocket attacks against Israeli civilians and” Israeli troops, he said in Telegram.
The other victims are, according to the headquarters in Qatar, the Mohammed Qreiqeh correspondent and the cameraman Ibrahim Zaher, Mohammed Noufal and Moamen Aliwa.
Al Jazeera prohibited diffusion in Israel
Anas Al-Sharif was one of the best known faces among the correspondents that covered the war in Gaza Daily, launched in retaliation by the bloody attack of Hamas on October 7, 2023.
According to Al Jazeera, “Al-Sharif, 28, was killed on Sunday after a tent used by journalists in front of the hospital’s main entrance was beaten.” The chain reported four other victims: the correspondent “Mohammed Qreiqeh, as well as the cameraman Ibrahim Zaher, Mohammed Noufal and Moamen Aliwa”.
Israel had already decided in May 2024 forbid the dissemination of the chain in the country and close its offices, the result of a long -standing conflict between the media and the government of the Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who worsened during the current war in the Gaza Strip.
The Israeli army has repeatedly accused journalists of this chain of being “terrorist agents” in Gaza affiliated with Hamas.
On the Palestinian side, the Palestinian authority, which has a partial authority in the West Bank, had banned Al Jazeera for several months to work and disseminate at the beginning of the year, accusing him of “incentive to sedition” and “interference.”
The chain denounced a decision aimed at its “worsening” coverage of the situation in the territory occupied by Israel since 1967.
200 days -ds killed in 20 months
Since the beginning of the war against Hamas in Gaza in general, the international press has not been authorized to work freely in the Palestinian territory. Only a few media, selected, entered aboard (in “insertion”) with the Israeli army, their reports are subject to strict military censorship.
Benjamin Netanyahu said on Sunday that he has given the army to authorize more international press journalists to work under his control in the Gaza Strip.
“There is a problem to guarantee security, but I think it can be done in a responsible and cautious way to preserve their own security,” he added, saying that the directive had occurred “for two days.” However, he did not give other details.
The international press works based on local journalists and correspondents, who paid a high price for the conflict: almost 200 were killed in 20 months by the Israeli army, including at least 45 in the exercise of their profession, according to journalists without Frontières (RSF).
The October 7 attack led to the Israeli side of 1,219 people in the Israelis, mostly civilians, according to an AFP count made of official data.
Israeli reprisals in Gaza have already left 61,430 dead, mainly civil, according to data from the Ministry of Hamas, considered reliable by the UN.
