The candidate for the presidency of Colombia and Senator Miguel Urib, injured by bullets at a public meeting in June in Bogotá, died after spending two months in intensive care and suffered several surgical interventions, his wife announced on Monday.
“You will always be the love of my life. Thank you for a life full of love,” Claudia Tarazona wrote on her Instagram account, and added: “Rest in peace (…), I will watch our children.”
Miguel Uibe, a 39 -year -old curator, had been touched by two bullets on his head and a ball on his leg for a murderer with a 2015 -wired murderer when he spoke a speech in the capital on June 7.
“Today is a sad day for the country,” the Colombian vice president, France Márquez on Monday, in a message on social network X on Monday. “Violence cannot continue marking our destiny. Democracy is not built with balls or blood, it is built with respect, with dialogue,” he added.
Fears of a return to violence of the eighties and ninety
Member of the Democratic Center Party of the former president of the right Alvaro Uibe, with whom he has no relationship, Miguel Uibe had announced in October his desire to present himself in the presidential elections of May 2026 to succeed the president of the left, Gustavo Petro.

The adolescent accused of being the author of the shots is arrested, as well as two other people suspected of complicity. All were accused by the Prosecutor’s Office for attempted homicide and illegal arms port. None recognized the facts.
