This first trip of the Russian president was expected to the United States for 10 years, but resulted in any specific announcement, after a meeting that lasted just under three hours.
• A handshake, the first since 2019
Six years have passed since the two leaders did not meet. Donald Trump welcomed Vladimir Putin in the asphalt of the Mentorf-Richardson base, even applauding his Russian counterpart. The two leaders then exchanged a handshake on the red carpet.
The two presidents set up in the same car. Russian state media Ria Novosti said Donald Trump invited Vladimir Putin to join him in his vehicle.
• A “constructive” meeting of just under three hours
Initially, Donald Trump and Vladimir had to talk to their heads. Finally, the two leaders spoke surrounded by their respective advisors, for a little less than three hours.
During a brief press conference, Vladimir Putin spoke of a “constructive” and “respectful” meeting. Terms approved by Donald Trump, who welcomed “a very constructive meeting.”
• Vladimir Putin evokes “security guarantees” for Ukraine
The Russian president said “wanting to pave the path for peace in Ukraine” after his exchange with his American counterpart. The Kremlin teacher said, in an unprecedented statement since the beginning of the conflict, that “the security of Ukraine must be guaranteed.”
Referring to “an agreement” found this Friday, Vladimir Putin calls kyiv and Europeans who do not “believe obstacles” to the peace process in Ukraine.
• Donald Trump greets “great progress” and will meet with Volodymyr Zelensky
The US president said at the press conference that he will call his Ukrainian counterpart and representatives of NATO. Donald Trump praised “great progress” and estimated that it remains “very” points to comply with an agreement.
“We have agreed many points. All that remains is that some are not very important, but one of them is probably the most important,” he said without giving details.
However, he pointed out that “we have not yet arrived, but we are very good to achieve it.”
• No high heat was announced, nor will it meet with Volodymyr Zelensky
This summit was particularly expected, but did not arise in any specific announcement. The press conference lasted less than ten minutes and Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump responded to any journalists’ response.
The two leaders did not mention the fire, or they talked about the military situation in Ukraine or a possible tripartite meeting with Volodymyr Zelensky, however, mentioned in recent days by Donald Trump.
