Donald Trump says he is “ready” to provide air support to Ukraine, but excludes the sending of troops to the ground

Following the meeting between the Ukrainian president, his American counterpart and European leaders, Washington says he is “ready to help”, but excludes any shipment of US soldiers in Ukraine.

Donald Trump said he was ready this Tuesday, August 19, since the United States provides air military support as security guarantees for Ukraine in case of a peace agreement with Russia, while excluding soldiers in the field, a mission dedicated to European allies.

“They are ready to send troops on the ground,” said the US president on the Fox News channel, referring to the French, German and British leaders who had received the day before at the Oval office.

The Republican billionaire, who is looking for a quick war form, reaffirmed that he was “ready to help”, but only for air support. Donald Trump “said there would be no US land troops in Ukraine,” White House spokesman Karoline Leavitt said confirming that the attendance of the Air Force was “a possibility.”

For his part, Russia warned by the voice of its Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sergei Lavrov, that any regulation of peace should guarantee its “security” and those of the Russian discussion in Ukraine, an already soft pretext to launch its invasion in February 2022.

A “ridiculous” war

In his interview with Fow News, Donald Trump justified his decision pointing out the emergence of the situation. “I just try to prevent people from killing him,” he said.

“They lose between 5,000 and 7,000 people per week in this ridiculous war that should never have taken place. If we had a normal president, not a great president, who would not have happened,” said the president of the United States.

Regarding the membership of Ukraine in NATO, the White House tenant also reiterated the statement that Ukraine does not return to the organization. However, he argued that certain European nations have agreed to provide protections similar to those of NATO, including security guarantees.

Meeting between Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky?

This announcement comes the day after the meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and his American counterpart, supported by several European leaders, including Emmanuel Macron. Three days before, Donald Trump had received Kremlin’s head, Vladimir Putin, in a big fanfare in Alaska.

All participants in the White House meetings have received advances in the Central Security Safety Archive in kyiv, which, however, must be formalized, and all declared that Vladimir Putin had accepted the principle of a summit with Volodymyr Zelensky in the coming weeks.

For this possible Tête-à-Tête, the French president Emmanuel Macron proposed to Geneva in Switzerland, a neutral country, who said he was willing to offer “immunity” to the Russian president, despite his accusation before the International Criminal Court, provided he comes “for a peace conference.”

If this bilateral meeting is successful, a tripartite meeting could continue with Donald Trump, he offered on Monday. On Tuesday night in Fox News, the Treasury Secretary, Scott Besent, replied that Budapest “could” welcome this Putin-trump-zelensky summit, as the political newspaper says.
