The Texas House of Representatives approved a redistribution of its electoral districts searched by Donald Trump. The objective for Republicans: to obtain five additional seats in Congress in Washington in the mid -period elections in 2026, usually unfavorable for the president’s party.
In a minority in the Texan Parliament, the Democrats fled the State in early August, refugees in Chicago or New York so that a quorum is not reached. The deliberation in the text that allows this redistribution could not take place.
His return allowed the organization on Wednesday, August 20, a vote on Wednesday, August 20. The redistribution proposal was adopted with 88 votes and 52 votes against the lower Chamber of Texas. Now it must be approved by the local Senate, most Republicans, before being promulgated by Republican governor Greg Abbott.
A “great victory for the great state of Texas”
Donald Trump praised a “great victory for the great state of Texas.” “We are on its way to five additional seats in Congress and save their rights, their freedoms and his country, himself,” said the president of the United States on Wednesday night, on his social social platform, before adding: “Texas never drops us.”
Of the 38 Texas deputies in Congress in Washington, 25 are currently Republicans. The White House awaits 30 next year.
The White House tenant again urged to “end the correspondence vote”, which accuses of promoting the alleged electoral fraud. “One hundred additional seats will go to the Republicans,” he added, in another message.
The bets are big for Donald Trump. If the Democrats take care of the majority in the House of Representatives in Washington in the 2026 elections, they will have a free field to launch parliamentary research commissions and poison the end of their second term. A majority that sometimes plays with some seats.
“A ‘racist Gerrymandering”
In Texas, Republican officials have decided to modify the electoral card so that the democratic vote is diluted, an electoral foundation technique called “Gerrymandering.”
While the local elected officials of Texas debated this electoral letter, Democratic representative Chris Turner described it, according to the Texas Tribune website, “clear violation of the Voting Rights Law and the Constitution.” A great law on civil rights adopted in 1965, the Voting Rights Law aimed to prevent ancient segregation states of the South from depriving African Americans of the right to vote.
The Democrats, in the minority in the Texan Parliament, denounced in particular the will of the Republicans to “silence the voters of minorities by a racist Gerrymandering”, believing that the new electoral letter would dilute the voices of the African -American and Hispanic electorates who, mainly, traditionally vote democrat.
Faced with this Tejana initiative, California’s elected officials ruled by Democrat Gavin Newsom, announced a similar initiative to redistribute the electoral card, which could finally allow the party to win five more seats in Congress, the same number as in Texas. They presented a bill on Monday to organize a referendum to redesign the most populous state electoral card in the country.
If Californian voters approve it on November 4, the local Parliament, where democrats are the majority, can establish a new card that should guarantee five additional seats in Congress, as in Texas.
“California and the Californians were the favorite objective of the Trump administration and we will not remain crossed, while ordersing Texas and other states that finally fails in the next elections,” said Gavin Newsom in a statement on Monday.
Beyond Texas, the Trump administration would also like to draw in his favor the Ohio, Missouri or even Indiana cards. “Florida, Indiana and others seek to do the same,” the US president wrote in his social network.
