Highlighting to meet while promising Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky, and his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, Donald Trump, launched this Friday, August 22 that said meeting was equivalent to mixing “oil and vinegar.”
“Let’s see if Putin and Zelensky will work together. You know, it’s a bit like oil and vinegar. They don’t get along very well, for obvious reasons,” said US president for a brief exchange with journalists.
“But we’ll see,” he added. “And then we will see if I have to be there or not. I prefer to be.”
Early in the day, Sergei Lavrov, head of Russian diplomacy, accused Volodymyr Zelensky of being at the origin of the blockade in the organization of a possible meeting with Vladimir Putin.
According to Russian minister, Washington wants the belligerents to accept “several principles” for the future conflict resolution, including the non -adhesion of Ukraine to NATO affirmed by Moscow and the discussion of territorial exchanges. However, Volodymyr “Zelensky said ‘no’ to all this”, punished Sergei Lavrov in an interview with NBC.
There are no advances of the Achorage Summit
The NATO general secretary, Mark Rutte, whose organization is in the heart of the conflict between Moscow and kyiv, is visiting Ukraine, where he once again asked Westerners to provide “solid security guarantees” to this country in case of a peace agreement with Moscow.
These security guarantees and the preparation of a summit between Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky are in the center of diplomatic efforts deployed in recent weeks by Donald Trump, who wants to quickly find a result for the Russian assault against Ukraine launched in 2022.
These efforts culminated with a meeting between the US president and his Russian counterpart in Alaska last Friday, then with his Ukrainian counterpart and his European allies in Washington on Monday. Despite this, the positions of both fields still seem to be irreconcilable.
