Donald Trump plans to change “soon” the name of the Ministry of Defense to rename it in the “Ministry of War”. This change “will probably be implemented in the next week,” he announced on Monday, August 25 at the Oval Office, when he received South Korean President Lee Jae-Myung.
“We won the First World War and World War II. He (the Ministry) was called the Ministry of War. And for me, that is really what it is. Defense is one of them. But I have the feeling that we are going to change,” said the US president.
“I talked to people. Everyone likes us. We had an incredible history of victories when it was the Ministry of War. Then we changed it in the Ministry of Defense,” he continued.
“We want to defend ourselves, but we also want to attack,” said Donald Trump later in the day.
The Ministry of War Deleted in 1947
According to the US president, the name change could go through a vote in Congress, “but I don’t even think it is necessary,” he said.
During a press conference in June, Donald Trump had already said that the name of the War Department had been abandoned because “we became politically correct.” In his real network, he had also called his Secretary of Defense Pete Hegsteh “Secretary of War” on several occasions.
