The American ambassador again believes that France “can do much better” to combat anti -Semitism

For Charles Kushner, an American ambassador to France, the government could do more to combat anti -Semitism. He explains, however, that his letter did not intend to bother the French president.

After shipping, on August 24, a letter to Emmanuel Macron in which he evoked “sufficient lack of action” against anti -Semitism in the country, the US ambassador to France is explained. Charles Kushner, invited in LCI this Thursday, August 28, indicates that his letter “did not intend to bother President Emmanuel Macron or the French government. It was a call to action, to be constructive.”

In particular, he mentions the fact that anti -Semitism is also very present in the United States. “I said that maybe I could help the French government solve this problem facing Americans and French.”

“Anti -Semitism in France is terrible”

On the other hand, he believes that President Donald Trump “recognizes the problem and acts firmly in these questions” unlike France. “I think that French government leaders can make it much better than condemning these acts and I don’t see where it happens.”

If you emphasize “that you do not want to do interference”, consider “as human and member of the Jewish community” that “anti -Semitism in France is terrible” and that “these are things in the head of the Americans, who wonder if they have to do business in France.”

For its part, French diplomacy explains that “in reality, as Emmanuel Macron remembers in his letter sent to Benjamin Netanyahu a few days ago, France’s commitment against anti -Semitism is complete and complete.” “All anti -Semitism is a betrayal of the Republic and its universalism,” the head of state wrote to Israeli prime minister on August 26.

Charles Kushner, also the father of Donald Trump’s son, adds: “France is shooting on the foot when he does not act on these questions.”

The absent ambassador to the call

This letter sent by the American ambassador had aroused the indignation of the quai d’Orsay. “France firmly refutes these last accusations. The increase in anti -Semitic acts in France since October 7, 2023 is a reality that we deplore and in which the French authorities show total mobilization, since these acts are intolerable,” he said in response.

The ambassador had also been summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday, but as it was absent, it was the Embassy officer who was there.
