Japan and South Korea have registered their best summer in decades

After Europe, Asia is the continent that heats faster. In Japan and South Korea, the inhabitants knew their hottest summer, according to weather reports published on Monday, September 1.

Japan and South Korea have known record heat this summer, while temperatures are rising throughout the world in recent years, climate change that leads to increasingly unpredictable climatic conditions.

The average temperature in Japan between June and August “was 2.36 ° C greater than the average value, which has made it the hottest summer since the beginning of the statements in 1898”, according to the Japanese weather agency (JMA).

“It was the third consecutive summer with record temperatures,” the JMA added.

During the same period, in South Korea, the average temperature was 25.7 ° C, “the highest since the beginning of data collection in 1973,” said the Korean weather administration in a press release. The previous registration for the same period was 25.6 ° C, established last year.

In Japan, the abrasing heat led to hospitalization of about 84,521 people throughout the country between May 1 and August 24, a slight increase compared to the 83,414 people hospitalized during the same period in 2024, according to the Fire and Disaster Management Agency.

Mount Fuji suffers these heat records

In Tokyo, Masao Nakano, an 80 -year -old follower, Jogol, told AFP that he regretted the good old days when he could simply “leave, water the street and feel the fresh air.” Masao Nakano claims to have survived this scoring summer training in a gym and jogging to prepare for a marathon. “It’s crazy! All this is due to man, right? All this air conditioning and this electricity production,” he questioned.

Japanese, emblematic cherry trees of the archipelago, now bloom in early spring due to warmer temperatures, or do not even completely bloom, falls and winters are not cold enough to trigger flowering.

In addition, the emblematic Nevada cap of Mont Fuji appeared last year until the beginning of November, against early October. Global warming is one of the many factors behind the slow snow.

For its part, South Korea faces a prolonged drought that hit the coastal city of Gangneung, in the northwest of the country. A state of national disaster was declared in this city in this city of 200,000 inhabitants after weeks without precipitation, while the authorities imposed drastic restrictions on the use of water by individuals.

According to scientists, heat waves are increasingly intense and frequent worldwide due to climate change caused by humans.

But the speed of temperature increase is not uniform worldwide. According to the global data of the American Oceanic and Atmospheric Observation Agency (NOAA), Europe is the continent that has experienced the fastest warming in a decade since 1990, followed by Asia.

Last month, the United Nations warned that the increase in world temperatures had an increasingly harmful impact on workers’ health and also affected productivity, which would decrease by 2 to 3% for each grade above 20 ° C.
