“Only Russia chose the war in 2022. It is only Russia who chooses today to continue and intensify it.” At a joint press conference with his homonym Ukranian Volodymyr Zelensky, the French president, Emmanuel Macron, promised this Thursday, September 4, new sanctions in Moscow if Vladimir Putin continued to reject peace.
Europeans will take new sanctions “in relation to the United States” if Moscow continues to reject peace.
“If Russia continues to reject the concrete discussions of peace (…), then we will take additional sanctions in relation to the United States and provide clear answers to this refusal to advance,” threatens the head of state.
“Reinsurance force”
Twenty-six, essentially European, “committed” countries to participate in a “reinsurance force” as part of a Russian Russian-Ukrainian future, deploying troops in Ukraine or being “present on the ground, in the sea or in the air,” Emmanuel Macron announced on Thursday.
“This force does not have the desire or objective of carrying out a war against Russia,” said the French president before the press in Paris after a summit of this “voluntary coalition.” After an exchange of videoconference with Donald Trump, he said that the “US support” for these “security guarantees” for kyiv would end “in the next few days.”
