“700 days. 700 days without their relatives. 700 days in unworthy conditions of detention.” Emmanuel Macron called “the immediate launch of all hostages that still retained by Hamas”, this Friday, September 5 in X.
“Barbarism and suffering have lasted too much,” he added.
47 hostages still in the hands of Hamas
700 days have passed today that the unprecedented attack against Hamas in Israel was perpetrated. On October 7, 2023, 251 people were eliminated. After almost two years, 47 of them remain detained in the Gaza Strip, 25 of which died, the Israeli army estimated.
The question of the return of the hostages remains in the heart of the negotiations for a high fire, Israel when making an absolute condition. Since October 7, Hamas and Islamic Jihad have broadcast several hostage videos.
Tens of thousands of deaths
A truce from January 19 to March 17 allowed the return to Israel of 33 hostages, including eight dead, in exchange for the departure of around 1,800 Palestinians of Israeli prisons, after a first brief high fire in November 2023 that allowed the release of many hostages.
The October 7 attack led to the death of 1,219 people on the Israeli side, mostly civilians, according to an AFP count based on official data.
The Israeli retaliation campaign left at least 64,300 dead in Gaza, mostly civilians, according to the Hamas Ministry of Health, whose figures are considered reliable by the UN.
