Franco-British agreement: a second migrant expelled to France, after the rejection of his appeal

On Thursday, a first migrant was expelled from the United Kingdom to France as part of the immigration agreement concluded this summer between the two countries.

A migrant was expelled from the United Kingdom to France aboard a second plane this Friday, September 19, after the rejection of its appeal the day before, the British government said. This dismissal is within the framework of the Franco-British agreement concluded this summer between the two countries.

“Today we have a second flight (…) with a migrant that is not allowed to stay here and that is fired,” said Commerce Minister Peter Kyle to Itv News, who expressed himself in the name of the Government.

An Indian first migrant had already been expelled towards France, on Thursday as part of the same agreement. The Interior Ministry said a second plane had taken off to France, without giving any detail.

Principle of “one for a”

The migrant in question is, according to the media, a citizen Eritrea, of which the Superior Court of London has authorized the expulsion the previous day, and was returned through a regular flight from Air France. This man arrived in the United Kingdom in early August after crossing the channel. According to the British media, at least three small boats with migrants left the French coast on Friday morning.

The British prime minister, Keir Starmer, welcomed the expulsion of the first migrant on Thursday within the framework of the agreement, saying that he was determined to “intensify the process.”

This agreement, highly criticized by the NGOs, establishes the return to France of migrants who arrived aboard small boats in the United Kingdom, in exchange for sending migrants in France through the channel, according to the principle of “one for one.” The British government, therefore, hopes to dissuade crossings.

The British Pressure Government

On Tuesday, the British government had undergone a setback when the Superior Court of London had temporarily blocked the expulsion, scheduled for the next day, of another erytrus migrant who had challenged his dismissal claiming a victim of trafficking in human beings.

The Government decided to appeal and announced that “would examine” the legislation on modern slavery to prevent “bad”, to avoid evictions.

Since the beginning of August, the United Kingdom has begun to place migrants in detention as part of this agreement. According to The Guardian newspaper, 92 people were arrested earlier this week pending their dismissal in France.

The work is under pressure to reduce irregular immigration to the emergence of the reform of the United Kingdom extreme right -wing party. He promised to fight the crosses from the channel to the United Kingdom, whose number has reached a record level since the beginning of the year, with more than 31,000 arrivals.

In the other way, the first authorized migrants to come to the United Kingdom will arrive “in the next few days” from France, the Interior Ministry said Thursday.
