Before France on Monday, Great Britain, Canada and Australia officially recognize the state of Palestine

Like several other European countries, the United Kingdom has announced, by the voice of its Prime Minister Keir Starmer, to recognize the state of Palestine this Sunday, September 21.

Keir Starmer announced that Great Britain officially recognizes the Palestinian State this Sunday, July 21. A British decision that arrives at the same time as that of Canada and Australia.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, in a statement, said he wanted to “preserve the possibility of a solution of two states.”

“Canada recognizes the state of Palestine and offers to work in association to carry the promise of a Pacific future for the state of Palestine and the state of Israel. Canada is writing down this measure in the context of a concerted international effort aimed at preserving the possibility of a solution of two states,” he said.

The British prime minister, Keir Starmer, announced on July 29 that the United Kingdom will recognize the state of Palestine in September, unless Israel takes certain commitments meanwhile, starting with a high fire in the Gaza Strip.

“The United Kingdom will recognize the state of Palestine in September (…), unless the Israeli government takes substantial measures to end the terrible situation in Gaza,” he said.

According to the declaration and the AFP checks, at least 142 of the 193 Member States of the UN recognized the Palestinian State proclaimed by the Palestinian Management in exile in 1988. In May 2024, Ireland, Spain and Norway, then Slovenia, had already taken the step to Europe.
