While France is preparing to recognize the state of Palestine, this Monday, September 22, for the opening of the UN General Assembly, Sarah Knafo, an attached reconquest in the European Parliament, considers this historical event as “very bad news.”
“An UN seat for the Jihad”
“This is very bad news for France, for the French and even for the situation in the Middle East. Emmanuel Macron is recognizing a seat at the UN for the Jihad,” he defends on the BFMTV-RMC set on Monday.
“There is a reason if from 1948 to 2025, no one (in France) has never officially recognized the state of Palestine,” he continues.
Internationally, some countries in Central and Eastern Europe had already recognized the Palestinian State following their declaration of independence, such as Hungary, Poland, Bulgaria, Romania and Czechoslovakia (now the Czech Republic and Slovakia).
Before being united years later by other countries of the European Union, such as Sweden (2014) and more recently Spain, Ireland and Norway, in 2024. This Sunday, Australia, Canada and the United Kingdom also officially recognized Palestine.
In the context of the bloody war against Gaza, oppose Israel and the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas, from the mortal attacks of October 7, 2023, the future of the Palestinians and Gaza is in the center of attention, accelerating the recognition of a state in the international scene.
“Clientelism”
It firmly opposes this recognition, the European deputy Sarah Knafo sees in the decision made by Emmanuel Macron, an attempt to adapt to the demographic evolution of France.
“Under the pretext of having a humanistic policy, Emmanuel Macron is completely disguising 77 years of French geopolitics on the matter, because the French demography has changed,” he argues that the deputy who denounces “clientelism” operated by the head of state.
“I think he is doing an extremely cynical calculation: he says that the Jewish community in France is 0.5% of the votes (…), together with the Muslim community, is between 10 and 20% of the votes, it will be even more in the long term,” said Sarah Knafo.
In the case of a state of Palestine that would coexist together with a state of Israel, new elections must be organized to designate a leader. “If we give them a state and tomorrow there are elections, it is very clear to give a state to Hamas. And they know it,” criticizes Sarah Knafo, despite the position of France who claimed to want to exclude Hamas from such a vote.
About 140 heads of state and government are expected on Monday, September 22 in New York on Monday, for the UN Annual Mass. Almost two years after the start of the Israeli offensive, several countries have planned to formally recognize the Palestinian State, France at the head. And this, despite the Israeli opposition.
