The outgoing mayor of New York, the Democrat Eric Adams, left the race on Sunday, September 28, the race for his re -election, just over a month of elections almost monitored by President Donald Trump, criticizing the favorite Zohran Mamdani.
For several weeks, the US media have been talking about the discussions between the elected official and the Trump administration so that the latter is retired in favor of Andrew Cuomo, a former Neworkanian, to block Zohran Mamdani, winner of democratic primary.
“In spite of everything we have succeeded, I cannot continue my campaign for my re -election,” deplore Eric Adams, 65, in a video posted in X. If you do not participate openly for Andrew Cuomo, you criticize barely veiled that the surveys give a large extent in mind, with an advance of around 20 points.
“An important change is welcome and necessary, but be careful with those who claim that the answer is to destroy the system that we have built together throughout generations. It is not a change, it is chaos,” he warns to the councilor.

“Donald Trump and his billionaire donors can influence the actions of Eric Adams and Andrew Cuomo, but will not dictate the results of this choice,” said Zohran Mamdani in a statement.
The Republican President had desired, at the beginning of September, “see two people (Eric Adams and Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa, NLDR) withdraw and if it is a face to face” with Andrew Cuomo, 67.
The latter praised the “not easy” but “sincere” choice of his now former adversary on Sunday. “We face destructive extremist forces that could devastate our city for its incompetence or ignorance, but it is not too late to stop them,” he urged a press release.
Accredited by 10 to 15% of the voting intentions, Curtis Sliwa was presented once again, by the voice of a spokesman, as “the only candidate who can overcome Mamdani.” Claiming to have received financial “multimillionaires” offers, recently hit his refusal to retire from the race.
Eric Adams weakened by justice and political tensions
After problems with justice, Eric Adams announced in April that it was running for a second mandate under the independent label to avoid the Democratic primaries, won by Zohran Mamdani against Andrew Cuomo, who also maintained its independent application.

“I know that some are still skeptical about me, after the unfortunate events that surrounded my legal adventure. I was unjustly accused because I fought for this city,” Eric Adams said in his video on Sunday.
“The speculation of the constant media about my future and the decision of the Financing Board of the campaign to retain millions of dollars have undermined my ability to raise the necessary funds for a serious campaign,” he concludes.
