The Portuguese head of state, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, announced on Wednesday that he intends to attend the inauguration ceremony of the next president of Brazil, on January 1 of next year.
During a meeting with Portuguese and descendants of Portuguese near the Brazilian capital, in Taguatinga, in the Federal District, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa declared: “We are going to see each other many more times. Natural, by the logic of things.”
The Portuguese president arrived in Brasilia on Tuesday to participate in the celebrations of the 200th anniversary of the independence of Brazil, at the invitation of his counterpart, Jair Bolsonaro.
The commemorations of the bicentennial of the independence of Brazil take place when the official campaign for the Brazilian presidential elections on October 2 is underway, with a possible second round on October 30, in which, among others, Jair Bolsonaro and former president President Lula da Silva.
