Fleet for Gaza: MEP LFI Emma Fourreau, imprisoned in Israel, begins a hunger strike

The European deputy had embarked on the soul, one of the ships of the international flotilla for help for Gaza, intercepted by Israel. His team announced on social networks that the elected official had started a hunger strike.

The Eurodiputada, Emma Fourreau, who had embarked on one of the ships of the International Aid flotilla for Gaza, began a hunger strike, his team announced on social networks this Friday, October 3.

The elected official was aboard the soul, and his ship, like all those who invented the flotilla, was intercepted by Israeli forces. Emma Fourreau, as well as her parliamentary assistant, were transferred to Ketziot prison, an Israeli detention center located in the Negev desert.

“Emma was illegally kidnapped by the Israeli army in international waters,” his team wrote on social networks. “In response, a hunger strike began, in solidarity with the Palestinian people hungry from Israel.”

The Eurodiput had already embarked on a humanitarian aid ship in July, the handala, also intercepted by the Israeli army. He had spent three days in detention, before being expelled to France.

42 intercepted ships

Israel announced on Friday that he had expelled four Italians, the first of almost 500 activists from the International Flotilla for Gaza arrested by the Israeli army in the last two days aboard their ships on the road to the Palestinian territory.

The last ship in the International Aid Flotilla for Gaza stopped on Friday morning “to about 42.5 nautical miles of Gaza” (approximately 80 kilometers), said the organizers of the fleet on their social networks.

In total during the last two days, “the naval forces of the Israeli occupation illegally intercepted our 42 ships, each with humanitarian aid, volunteers and the determination to break the illegal seat imposed in Gaza,” the organization continued.

In a statement, the Israeli police said that “the Military Police attended” more than 470 fleeting participants, subject to rigorous control and transferred to prison administration. “

The Sumud Global Flotilla, “a peaceful and not violent mission of humanitarian aid,” as defined itself, included political figures and activists such as the Swedish Greta Thunberg.

She was part of Spain in September to break the blockade imposed by Israel in the Gaza Strip and provide “humanitarian aid to a besieged population confronted with famine and genocide.”
