The attacks attributed to Bears left two dead on Friday in Japan, the Japanese police and the media said this Saturday, October 4, in a context of proliferation of these animals in this country.
A fungal collector was found dead in a forest in the prefecture of Miyagi, in the northeast of Honshu Island, and another is missing, police said.
The police did not formally confirm the causes of the death of the septuagenarian, but according to local media, they were alerted by other collectors who reported a Bear attack.
A different attack and also attributed to a bear cost a 78 -year -old man in Nagano’s prefecture northwest tokyo, according to the National newspaper Asahi Shimbun.
More and more wild bears observed
More and more wild bears have been observed in Japan in recent years, even in residential areas, for reasons related to climate change and the decrease in the population.
Last month, Japan softened the rules on firearms to facilitate their use by hunters in urban areas after an increase in bears attacks.
According to NHK’s public radio, Bear Attacks left five people dead and 64 wounds between April and August of this year. Previously, according to government data, the Bears attacked 85 people in the year that ended in March 2025, killing three people. The previous year there were 219 attacks and six deaths.
