Russia says it intercepted 184 Ukrainian drones overnight

The day before, Russia said it had intercepted more than 250 Ukrainian drones. Kyiv is particularly targeting Russian energy infrastructure, while Moscow continues to bomb Ukraine daily.

Russia announced this Tuesday, October 7, that it had intercepted 184 Ukrainian drones overnight, one of the most massive attacks by kyiv since the beginning of the large-scale offensive in Moscow in Ukraine in February 2022.

Drones have been killed above the Russian regions of Koursk (62 drones neutralized) and Belgorod (31), Borders of Ukraine, according to a statement from the Russian Ministry of Defense.

On Monday, Russia said it had intercepted more than 250 Ukrainian drones, while a Ukrainian strike had killed two in the city of Belgorod.

In this same Belgorod region, a thousand people remained without power Tuesday morning, following drone attacks on energy infrastructure over the past two days, according to Governor Viatcheslav Gladkov.

Smell on energy infrastructure

Since the beginning of its offensive three and a half years ago, Russia has been launching drones and missiles almost daily into Ukraine, which regularly responds by reaching Russian territory.

kyiv targets Russian energy infrastructure in particular, but its attacks are generally limited to a few dozen drones.

For its part, Moscow has stepped up its attacks on Ukraine’s Electricity Grid in recent days, raising fears of a campaign aimed at plunging the country into darkness and difficulty warming itself as winter approaches, as was the case in 2024.

At the end of September, Moscow exercised full or partial control of 19% of Ukrainian territory, according to AFP analysis of data provided by the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW), which operates the Critical Threats Project (CTP).

About 7%, Crimea and areas in the Donbass industrial region, were already checked before the Russian assault in February 2022.
