Madrid firefighters found this Wednesday morning, October 8, the bodies of the two people missing after the collapse of a building under construction in the center of Madrid the day before, bringing the death toll to two out of four.
Two bodies were found on Tuesday afternoon in the area near the Plaza Mayor, a busy tourist area, a few hours after the partial collapse of the building that occurred shortly before 1:30 p.m. (11:30 GMT).
Firefighters found the other two bodies early Wednesday morning, Mayor José Luis Martínez-Almeida reported on the X social network.
“We send all our love and support to his family, friends and colleagues during this very difficult time,” he added.
Three people with minor injuries
Emergency services said the victims included three men who worked at the site and a woman who was supervising the project. According to Spanish media, the workers were from Mali, Guinea and Ecuador. Three other people were slightly injured.
An investigation has been opened to determine the origin of the collapse of this old office building, currently being transformed into a hotel. City Hall records indicate a permit was granted for the project in February.
