The former singer was serving a 29-year prison sentence for multiple sexual assaults on children and attempted rape of a baby.

The former singer of the British rock group The Lostprophets, Ian Watkins, convicted in 2013 of sexual violence against minors, died on Saturday, October 11 after being attacked in prison, British media reported.

Ian Watkins, 48, was serving a 29-year prison sentence after being convicted in December 2013 of multiple sexual assaults on minors and attempted rape of a baby.

He died after being attacked by a fellow inmate at Wakefield prison in northern England, according to the PA news agency.

His group previously sold millions of albums.

Local police said they intervened at the prison on Saturday morning after being informed of an attack.

“Emergency services were sent to the scene and the man was pronounced dead shortly afterwards,” West Yorkshire Police said in a statement.

The singer of Lostprophets, a Welsh alternative rock group that has sold millions of albums around the world, was also hospitalized in 2023 after being attacked, and British media reported that other inmates had taken him hostage.
