Israel announced that it had released this Monday, October 13, 1,968 Palestinian prisoners in exchange for the release of the last 20 living hostages still held captive by Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
“The Israeli prison administration has released the imprisoned terrorists in accordance with the hostage return agreement” as part of the ceasefire signed between Israel and Hamas, according to an official statement.
In total, “1,968 terrorists were released from prison [militaire] by Ofer [en Cisjordanie occupée] toward [ce territoire, y compris à] East Jerusalem [annexée par Israël]AND [ont été acheminés] from Ktziot prison [dans le sud d’Israël] towards” the Gaza Strip, adds this press release from the prison administration.
The bodies of two hostages handed over by Hamas
At the same time, Hamas handed over the last twenty live hostages it held to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Gaza on the same day in two stages.
The Palestinian movement began by releasing seven hostages early in the morning and then another 13 later. Of the 28 hostages killed, Hamas also handed over the bodies of two of them held in the Gaza Strip to the Red Cross on Monday, the Israeli military said.
These two bodies “are on their way to the Israeli military and intelligence forces in the Gaza Strip,” the army said in a message, adding that it expected the transfer of two more remains shortly.
