High Judge Letitia James, Donald Trump’s bête noire, recently indicted on suspicion of false statements, challenged the American president and gave, this Monday, October 13, her unreserved support to Zohran Mamdani, favorite for the New York municipal elections.
In her first public statements since her indictment, the New York State attorney general declared that she feared “no man,” a thinly veiled allusion to the American president.
“I know what it feels like to be attacked just for doing your job,” she said at a rally in Manhattan after shaking her fist at the crowd.
“I will continue fighting against the aggressive policies” of power in Washington, “I will not stop, I will not give up and I will not surrender. I fear no man,” the 66-year-old magistrate launched.
“The time has come to fight for you”,
Letitia James was indicted last Thursday by a grand jury in Virginia on suspicion of making false statements to obtain a bank loan.
This elected representative of the Democratic Party is at the origin of the process against Donald Trump and two of his sons, Donald Jr. and Eric. The three were found guilty of colossally inflating the value of the Trump Organization’s assets during the 2010s to benefit from more favorable bank loans and better insurance terms.
At the end of a highly publicized trial in 2024, Donald Trump was sentenced to a massive fine of $464 million. Last August, an appeals court overturned it.
“The time has come to fight for you,” New York mayoral front-runner Zohran Mamdani, a 33-year-old Democrat, declared of Letitia James, referring to an “authoritarian administration (that) is waging a campaign of ruthless retaliation against all those who dared to oppose it.”
Watched closely by President Trump, the election for New York’s next mayor will take place on November 4. Polls show Zohran Mamdani as the favorite, well ahead of his closest rival, former Governor Andrew Cuomo.
