The call for peace launched on Monday to Iran by US President Donald Trump is “in contradiction” with the actions of the United States that supported the Israeli bombing of nuclear facilities, the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reacted on Tuesday, October 14.
During a speech Monday before the Israeli Parliament, Donald Trump said the United States was “ready” to make peace with Iran, saying it would be “great,” months after his support for Israeli bombings of Iranian nuclear sites during a war in June.
A “contradiction” denounced
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs considers that the desire for peace and dialogue expressed by the American president is in contradiction with the hostile and criminal behavior of the United States towards the Iranian people,” the Iranian ministry said in a statement.
On Monday, Donald Trump assured that “neither the United States nor Israel harbors hostility toward the Iranian people. We simply want to live in peace.” “Even for Iran the hand of friendship and cooperation is extended,” he said.
Three nuclear centers bombed
Israel launched an unprecedented bombing campaign against Iran on June 13, killing senior officials and scientists linked to Iran’s nuclear program, as well as hundreds of civilians. Iran responded with missiles and drones launched against Israel. The war lasted 12 days.
On the orders of Donald Trump, US forces bombed three major nuclear sites in central Iran on June 22. “How can we attack a country’s residential areas and nuclear facilities in the middle of political negotiations, kill more than a thousand people, including innocent women and children, and then demand peace and friendship?” Iranian diplomacy was finally launched on Tuesday.
The June war ended a series of indirect talks held since April between the United States and Iran over the Iranian nuclear program.
