A “martyr to truth and freedom”: Donald Trump posthumously decorates ultraconservative influencer Charlie Kirk

A month after his assassination, the conservative activist was posthumously awarded the Medal of Freedom by President Donald Trump on Tuesday, October 14.

This Tuesday, October 14, Donald Trump posthumously awarded his ally Charlie Kirk, an ultra-conservative influencer murdered on September 10 during a public meeting, with the highest American civilian distinction, the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

The American president considered that the young man, shot dead at the age of 31, was a “martyr of truth and freedom”, comparable according to him to Socrates, Saint Peter, Abraham Lincoln and Martin Luther King. He recalled the very active role played by this Christian nationalist in mobilizing young people in his favor during the last presidential campaign.

The 79-year-old Republican, during a ceremony on the grounds of the White House, also attacked his now recurring target, the extreme left, which according to him follows “the ideology of the devil.”

“We see legions of left-wing extremists resorting to acts of violence,” said Donald Trump, who deployed the army in several cities controlled by the Democratic opposition against the advice of local elected officials.

The American president assures that political violence in the United States only comes from the left, and never mentions attacks against democratic figures.

“His mission did not die with him”

The widow of the murdered activist received the decoration on his behalf, before giving a speech in which she interrupted several times to contain her emotion.

“To everyone watching. This is not a ceremony, this is a marching order,” said Erika Kirk, who took over her late husband’s role as head of the radical right youth organization Turning Point USA.

“His mission did not die with him,” he further stated.

Charlie Kirk’s widow also said that if her husband had lived, he “probably would have run” for president. The alleged murderer of pro-Trump influencer Tyler Robinson, 22, faces the death penalty. His next court appearance is expected to be Oct. 30.

The State Department, for its part, announced at the end of the day that it had canceled the visas of six foreigners present in the United States because they “celebrated the atrocious murder of Charlie Kirk,” and American diplomacy produced screen copies of the incriminating messages about X.

Donald Trump’s government has revoked numerous visas due to the political statements of their holders, a controversial practice but vindicated by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, particularly against pro-Palestinian students.

After the death of Charlie Kirk, many Internet users who had criticized him on social networks found themselves fired because of their comments.
