Illinois governor and billionaire JB Pritzker won $1.4 million after playing blackjack at a Las Vegas casino last year, NBC News reports. The gain could be seen in his new tax return.
The politician was on vacation with his wife and friends when he got the loot. “I had incredible luck. Frankly, you have to be lucky to win, anywhere in a casino,” he said at a press conference.
According to his campaign team, JB Pritzker, who together with his wife will have a total income of almost $10 million in 2024, will donate the money to charity.
An opponent of Donald Trump
The revelations of this casino victory come as the Illinois governor increasingly establishes himself on the national stage as one of the leading and rare critical voices of the White House and, by extension, Donald Trump’s policies.
JB Pritzker, heir to the Hyatt hotel chain, whose fortune is estimated at $3.9 billion, became known by denouncing the US president’s willingness to deploy the national guard in certain cities, such as Los Angeles and Washington. He described these actions as “authoritarian.”
The governor is often mentioned as a candidate for the 2028 presidential election, without any official confirmation from him. According to AP News, he is currently considering running for a third term in 2026 as governor.
