Israel carries out new attacks in the south of the Gaza Strip, Civil Defense denounces the death of 15 people

The Israeli army claimed that it was responding to a “flagrant violation of the ceasefire agreement”, while the Civil Defense of the Gaza Strip announced the deaths of 15 people in these IDF attacks.

The Israeli army announced that it launched new attacks on Sunday in the southern Gaza Strip, after reporting the first bombings in the area, in Rafah, in response, according to it, to attacks by Hamas, denied by the movement.

“In response to the flagrant violation of the ceasefire agreement today,” the Israeli military “began a series of attacks against Hamas terrorist targets in the southern Gaza Strip,” a military statement said, as Israel and Hamas accuse each other of violating the ceasefire that came into effect on October 10.

According to an AFP journalist, the attacks targeted the eastern part of Khan Younes, in the south of the Palestinian territory.

Civil Defense announces the death of 15 people

The Civil Defense of the Gaza Strip announced that Israeli strikes had killed 15 people across the Palestinian territory. Mahmoud Bassal, spokesman for the Civil Defense, a rescue service that operates under the authority of Hamas, thus revised upwards the initial toll of 11 dead.

Among the victims are six people who died in an Israeli attack in Al Zawaida, in the center of the territory, against a “group of civilians”, all of them displaced from areas further north, he told AFP.

Another attack, against “tents of displaced people near Khan Younes (south), also killed a woman and two children,” he added.

The Israeli military told AFP it was verifying these claims.

Given the restrictions imposed on the media in Gaza and the difficulties of access on the ground, AFP was unable to independently verify the reports from the various parties.
