Iran’s supreme leader says Donald Trump is ‘dreaming’ if he believes he destroyed Iran’s nuclear sites

Despite the US bombings against Iranian nuclear facilities, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei assured, this Monday, October 20, that Donald Trump is “dreaming” if he believes he has destroyed this site.

Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, declared this Monday, October 20, that US President Donald Trump, whose country carried out bombings against Iran together with Israel in June, is “dreaming” if he believes he has destroyed Iranian nuclear facilities. “That’s good, keep dreaming!” the Iranian leader said, referring to Trump’s numerous claims that Iran’s nuclear program had been “totally destroyed.”

On June 22, the United States bombed the Fordo underground uranium enrichment site, south of Tehran, and the nuclear facilities in Isfahan and Natanz (center). The exact extent of the damage is unknown. But the American president has claimed for several months that the places have been “eliminated.”

They dropped “14 bombs”

“We dropped 14 bombs on the main nuclear facilities. As I said at the beginning, they were destroyed and this was confirmed,” insisted Donald Trump, during a speech last Monday before the Israeli Parliament. “When we destroyed their nuclear capacity, they stopped being the bullies of the Middle East,” said the US president in an interview broadcast on Sunday by the Fox News channel.

“Why does the United States care that Iran has a nuclear industry?” Ali Khamenei asked Monday during a meeting in Tehran with athletes. “Who are you to say that a country should or should not have (the right) to nuclear energy?” he added, addressing Donald Trump.

of pique

Iran and the United States, once close allies under the Pahlavi monarchy, severed diplomatic relations after the 1979 Islamic Revolution and a hostage crisis at the American embassy. The two countries have been at odds for four decades.

However, in April they began negotiations, through the Sultanate of Oman, on Iran’s nuclear program. They were interrupted when Israel launched a surprise attack on Iran on June 13, sparking a 12-day war. The United States joined in these attacks.

During the war, Israel carried out hundreds of attacks against Iranian nuclear and military facilities and killed scientists linked to Iran’s nuclear program. Iran responded with missile and drone attacks against Israeli territory.

Israel, a sworn enemy of Iranian power, and Western countries suspect that Iran wants to acquire an atomic bomb. Tehran, which strongly denies having such military ambitions, claims to be developing nuclear power for civilian needs.
