A 70-year-old Japanese tourist died this Friday in Rome after falling from a surrounding wall of the Pantheon, whose height is around 7 meters, local press reports.
An open investigation
The events took place shortly before 10:00 p.m. in this emblematic site of the Italian capital. Emergency services quickly arrived at the scene.
After forcing the entrance gate located outside the site, they were only able to confirm the death of the tourist when they reached him.
An investigation is underway to clarify the circumstances of his death, but the man could have fallen after leaning too far to take a selfie, according to the Roman press. But other ways are also studied, such as discomfort or a voluntary gesture. An autopsy must be performed.
