Israeli forces announced on Tuesday, October 28, that they had killed three Palestinians, presented as members of a “terrorist cell”, during a raid carried out by police and the army in the village of Kfar Qud, west of Jenin, in the occupied West Bank.
“During an offensive operation carried out by the Yamam forces,” an elite anti-terrorist police command, in Kfar Qud, “the fighters […] “He acted to neutralize a terrorist cell that was planning to carry out an attack and was part of a terrorist organization active in the Jenin countryside,” a statement from the Israeli police said.
“The forces saw the members of the cell coming out of a cave. The unit’s snipers opened fire with precision, eliminating the three terrorists,” the statement added. The Israeli military says it then “attacked the terrorists from the air” to destroy the hideout they had emerged from.
“A serious threat of attack” thwarted according to Israel
“Two terrorists were eliminated and another wounded. Shortly after, the Israeli Air Force neutralized one last terrorist,” according to a joint statement from the army and the Shin Bet, the Israeli internal security agency. Defense Minister Israel Katz said the attack had thwarted “a serious attack threat.”
“Any attempt by terrorist organizations to rebuild the terrorist infrastructure in Judea and Samaria (the name given by Israel to the West Bank, editor’s note), – which we have dismantled and destroyed in the terrorist camps (…) – will be repressed with an iron fist,” wrote Israel Katz in X. The Israeli army “will remain present in the terrorist camps of Jenin, Tulkarem and Nour Drills to prevent terrorism and attacks,” he adds.
According to her, to suppress Palestinian armed groups fighting Israel, the IDF launched last winter, shortly after the start of a previous truce in the Gaza Strip, a vast operation in these refugee camps in the northern West Bank. In this Palestinian territory occupied by Israel since 1967, tens of thousands of Palestinians have been displaced and many buildings demolished, opening new access routes to densely populated areas.
Increased violence in the West Bank
Violence has increased in the West Bank since the start of the war, triggered by the Hamas attack on Israeli soil on October 7, 2023, in the Gaza Strip, where a ceasefire came into force on October 10. Before the operation, which police reported on Tuesday, at least 988 Palestinians had since been killed by Israeli forces or settlers, according to figures from the Palestinian Health Ministry.
During the same period, at least 43 Israelis, including soldiers, were killed in Palestinian attacks or Israeli military operations, according to official Israeli figures.
