From floor to ceiling marble: Donald Trump on Friday celebrated the renovation of a White House bathroom, part of which he already destroyed to build a $300 million ballroom.
In a series of publications on his Truth Social network, the American president shows the before and after of the so-called Lincoln bath. Before: pale green tiles on the walls, a white sink on a metal pedestal. After: white marble on the floor and walls, gold taps and chandelier on the ceiling.
“I made it in polished black and white marble.”
“I renovated the Lincoln bathroom in the White House. It was renovated in the 1940s in an art deco style with green tiles, which is completely inappropriate for the time of (President Abraham) Lincoln,” the US president wrote.
“I made it in polished black and white marble. It works very well for the time of Abraham Lincoln and could even match the original marble,” added the real estate magnate, a great fan of marble and gold.
This series of publications comes a week after the total destruction of the East Wing of the White House decided by Donald Trump to build a large ballroom, the estimated cost of which increased from 200 to 300 million dollars.
The American executive insists that this project, financed by private donors such as Amazon, Google or the defense industrialist Lockheed Martin, “would not cost taxpayers a single cent.”
The first major renovation
Donald Trump, a lover of ostentation, also decorated his Oval Office with gold, transformed the White House’s bucolic rose garden into a patio furnished with white iron tables and chairs, and installed two enormous American flags in the gardens.
The renovation of the Lincoln Bathroom marks the first major renovation of this term in the White House residence, the main part of the building where the president lives.
This renovated bathroom is not part of the president’s private quarters, but rather a nearby suite that can accommodate guests, like Elon Musk in the spring, when he was head of his Commission on Government Efficiency, or Doge.
This Abraham Lincoln suite takes its name from the illustrious 19th century president who made it his office.
