The deadly three-and-a-half-year conflict between kyiv and Moscow has also led to incongruous scenes. Last month, a camel used by Russian troops was captured by Ukrainian soldiers in the east of the country, the British newspaper The Daily Telegraph reported on Thursday, October 30.
In a video published on TikTok on October 19 by the account @bandera_batya, we can see a camelid walking along a road tied to a truck. The animal and car pass by Ukrainian soldiers repairing an M113 armored personnel carrier.
According to the Daily Telegraph, the camel was captured by Ukrainian troops near the Kharkiv region after they assaulted a Russian position. The camel was then probably taken to the Feldman Ecopark, a wildlife park in Lisne located near the city.
Horses and donkeys as well as camels.
Bactrian camels, native to Central Asia, have the particularity of being able to withstand hot and dry summers as well as very low temperatures during winter. They can also carry extremely heavy loads, which is the main reason the Russian military uses them in Ukraine.
This is not the first time a camel has been seen in the Ukrainian theater of war. Last February, a Russian soldier was photographed riding a camel.
In addition to camelids, Russian soldiers also use horses and donkeys in the field. A tactic advocated a few months ago in particular by Viktor Sobolev, Duma deputy and member of the Defense Committee. “If certain means, such as the use of donkeys and horses, are used to transport ammunition and other supplies to the front, this is normal,” he said.
