Four people were slightly injured in the derailment of a train this Monday morning, November 3, in the northwest of England after a landslide, according to the first indications of the network manager.
Transport police reported that 85 passengers were evacuated from the train that connects Glasgow (Scotland) with London’s Euston station, operated by the Avanti West Coast company. The accident occurred at 6.10am local time in Shap, Cumbria, not far from the mountainous Lake District, and caused disruption to rail traffic.
According to the transport police, “the lead car derailed but remained straight.”
“Particularly unfavorable” weather conditions
“The incident is believed to have occurred as a result of a landslide in an area affected by particularly adverse weather conditions,” administrator Network Rail said in a statement, adding that “extremely heavy rainfall continues to aggravate the situation.”
Ambulance services said “only four people suffered minor injuries” and none required hospital treatment.
This incident comes two days after a knife attack on a train traveling in eastern England left ten people injured. The suspect was charged Monday with attempted murder.
