News from the heroes of the Colorado shooting. With courage, Thomas James and Rich Fierro prevented the shooter from causing more casualties than the five people who died in an LGBT+ club on November 19. The first pushed a rifle out of the shooter’s reach, while the second struck him repeatedly with a pointed weapon, authorities said. Separately, they talked about how this night had turned into a tragedy.
Thomas James, a member of the US Navy, spoke in a statement issued by Centura Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs, where he is recovering from his injuries. In reference to the LGBT+ community, he “just wanted to save the family” that he had found. His comments were broadcast by the guardian.
“If it were up to me, I would protect everyone I could from senseless acts of hate in the world, but I’m just one person,” the hero admitted. Fortunately, we are a family and the family looks out for each other.”
“I want to support everyone who has experienced the pain and loss that has been all too common in recent years,” said Thomas James.
And the soldier added: “My thoughts are with those who lost on November 19 and those who are still recovering from their injuries.”
Thomas James urged young members of the LGBT+ community to be brave. “Your family is there. You are loved and appreciated. So when you come out, swing out,” he advised.
“Everyone in that room was a hero”
Army veteran Rich Fierro spoke to a CNN reporter on Saturday. “I’m not a hero,” he assured.
“Everyone in this room was a hero to us and everyone has a hero story to try to survive,” he said.
Also according to CNN, which is in charge of the information from the authorities, the boyfriend of Rich Fierro’s daughter was among those killed in the shooting.
As for the suspect, Anderson Lee Aldrich, he was arrested on suspicion of murder, after his first appearance on November 23. He spoke only to confirm his name and his rights. A tentative date for a new appearance was set for December 6.
