Argentine police arrest partner of attacker Vice President Cristina Kirchner

Argentine police arrested the companion of the man who tried to shoot Vice President Cristina Kirchner on Thursday evening in Buenos Aires, judicial sources said.

The woman, Brenda Uliarte, 23 – interviewed by several television stations, after the attempted attack on suspect Fernando André Sabag Montiel – was detained at a station near Palermo, according to the same sources, quoted by several media outlets. including the official Argentine agency Telam.

The 35-year-old man, of Brazilian nationality, already in custody, on Thursday pointed a gun at the head of the former president (2007-2015) of Argentina and the current vice president of the country, and tried to shoot twice, but the gun did not fire.

Kirchner’s lawyer said he will ask the court to classify the attack as an “attempted femicide,” compounded by an attempted illegal use of a firearm.

Gregorio Dalbón believed that the detainee was not acting alone and that the attack could have been planned.

The aggressor, with no criminal record in Brazil, refused to testify before federal judge María Eugenia Capuchetti and prosecutor Carlos Rívolo, who was responsible for the investigation.

In the searches carried out by the Argentine federal police at the detainee’s home, in the city of San Martín, in Buenos Aires, about 100 9 mm bullets, a mobile phone and a laptop were seized.

The technological equipment, which is now part of the evidence in the case, will be examined by the scientific police to see if the detainee acted alone.

Argentine President Alberto Fernández rejected the attack and declared a public holiday on Friday so that citizens could speak out against violence in the streets.

Supporters of the vice president have been targeting the streets near Kirchner’s home since last week after a prosecutor demanded a 12-year prison sentence for the politician in a case of alleged corruption related to public works.

Tensions have risen in the Recoleta neighborhood of the Argentine capital, and have already led to clashes between supporters and police after attempts by security forces to demobilize them.
