Vladimir Putin before an international war crimes tribunal, Anton Korynevych believes in it. On a visit to Paris to discuss the constitution of said body, Volodymyr Zelensky’s special ambassador explains on BFMTV what is at stake in his visit this Monday.
“My responsibility is to make Russia pay for every crime committed,” he explains.
According to him, peace is impossible if it is not accompanied by justice, hence the interest in creating an international court to judge war crimes.
“The investigations continue. The prosecution is working on this issue. International mechanisms are being launched. Today in Paris, we are talking about an additional mechanism that will be able to try the main Russian political leaders. (…) They must answer for the aggression of Ukraine,” he says on BFMTV.
“Prepared for all situations”
It is still too early to say where this court could take place, although the target for the moment is a European city. “A European capital that has significant significance for justice would be good,” says Anton Korynevych.
I questioned the poursuite of Russian attacks in Ukraine ces denières semaines, the ambassadeur rappelled that the Ukrainiens se doivent d’être “prêts en permanence”: “We sommes préparés à all situations, et nous comprenon que la Russie utilise le froid comme a weapon.”
While Russian troops may be about to abandon the Zaporizhia power plant, he also insists that no territory should be left in Russian hands. “All territories must be liberated. The Zaporizhia power station is very important and I am sure that our armed forces will heroically liberate all the occupied territories.”
