These parents refused to allow their son to receive blood from a person who had been vaccinated against Covid-19 for urgent open-heart surgery. According to New Zealand Herald, the health system requests that custody of the child be withdrawn from his parents, so that the necessary consent for the operation can be given.
This Wednesday, the different parties met in court to determine a hearing date. The lawyer for the health system argued that a child with such a condition -pulmonary stenosis- should have been treated weeks ago under normal circumstances.
A hearing on Tuesday
For her part, the parents’ lawyer assured that the parents wanted better care than the one offered by the State, reports the Herald of New Zealand.
“Because they call my clients conspirators, [leur position] is that anything my clients say can be ignored,” he said.
Any Covid-19 vaccine “breaks down” in the blood “shortly after injection,” the New Zealand blood donation facility says on its site. “All blood donations are also screened during processing, so any small amounts that may still be present pose no risk to recipients,” she adds.
In this case, the different parties must meet in court next Tuesday to defend their respective cases.
