Unemployment in the eurozone reaches a record low of 6.5% in October

The unemployment rate in the euro zone fell to 6.5% in October, compared to 7.3% in the same month of 2021, the statistics office of the European Union (EU) announced on Thursday, revealing a minimum historical since 2008.

The data published today by Eurostat reveal that, in October this year, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in the euro zone was 6.5%, compared to 6.6% last September and 7.3% in October 2021 .

In the EU as a whole, the EU unemployment rate was 6% in October this year, up from 6.1% last September and 6.6% in October 2021.

In both cases, according to Eurostat figures, a record minimum value is at stake since the statistical series, which began in 2008.

In October of this year, the unemployment rate in Portugal was 6.1%, which compares with an identical percentage in September and against 6.3% in October 2021.

In absolute terms, Eurostat estimates that 12.953 million men and women in the EU, of which 10.872 million in the eurozone, were unemployed in October 2022.

Compared to October 2021, unemployment decreased, in the same month this year, by 1,158 million in the EU and by 1,053 million in the euro area.

Regarding youth unemployment, in October of this year a total of 2,872 million young people under the age of 25 were unemployed in the EU, of which 2,326 million in the euro area, a rate of 15.1% for the whole of the Community bloc and 15% in the single currency area.

By gender, the unemployment rate for women was 6.4% in the EU in October this year, stable compared to the previous month, while that for men was 5.7%, compared to 5.8% of the previous month.

In the euro zone, the unemployment rate for women was 7% in October this year, compared to 7.1% the previous month, while that of men was 6.1%, compared to 6.2 % of the previous month, advances Eurostat.
