The Kremlin unilaterally canceled the planned meeting with the United States of America, which was to discuss the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty) – an agreement implemented in 2011 limiting the number of nuclear weapons between the two powers.
This would be the first meeting between the two countries since the start of the war in Ukraine and would take place between November 29 and December 6 in Cairo, according to El País newspaper.
According to information from the US embassy in Moscow to the newspaper Kommersant, “the Russian side informed the US that it had unilaterally postponed the meeting and said it would propose new dates”.
According to the same source, the Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed that “the session of the bilateral advisory committee will not take place on the dates indicated and the event will be postponed”, but no alternative date was advanced.
The meeting between Moscow and Washington was designed to discuss the nuclear arsenal of the two countries.
