Italy’s foreign ministry reported on Friday that the car of a senior official at the Italian embassy in Athens was completely destroyed after an incendiary bomb exploded in the early hours of the morning.
According to Italian diplomacy, the senior official of the diplomatic mission in the Greek capital, identified as Susanna Schlein, was awakened by the explosion, after noticing at the same time that a group of unknown people were trying to hit another vehicle, near which there was found an incendiary bomb (Molotov cocktail) with a half blown fuse.
“I express my solidarity and the government’s solidarity with the First Adviser of the (Rome) Embassy in Athens, Susanna Schlein, and we express our deep concern at the attack directed against her”Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said in a statement.
On the same note, Meloni said the attack was “probably anarchist in nature”without providing further details.
“I am following the case closely, as is Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani”said the Italian Prime Minister.
The head of Italian diplomacy is visiting Athens.
