The mysterious street artist Banksy, whose identity has never been revealed, confirmed in November that he had signed seven works, including this one, in areas hit by Russian strikes. “In solidarity with the Ukrainian people”, he wrote in a video with these drawings.

“These images are, after all, symbols of our fight against the enemy,” Kiev Provincial Governor Oleksiy Kuleba said after the attempted robbery of the woman who is curling her hair. “We will do everything possible to preserve these works of street art as symbols of our victory.”

Banksy’s works can reach tens of millions in the art market. In March 2021, one of his templates was sold at auction for 16.75 million pounds (almost 20 million euros) to benefit the British health service.

And his works are of interest to the black market: last June, eight men were sentenced after the robbery of a Bataclan door decorated with a drawing by Banksy in tribute to the victims of November 13.
