The state of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s health has been the subject of speculation since the beginning of the year, when Russia invaded Ukraine. Rumors circulating suggest that the Russian leader is dealing with a range of illnesses, from cancer to Parkinson’s to Alzheimer’s.
The most recent speculation was published at the end of this week on the Telegram channel General SVR, by a former Russian spy, who claims that Vladimir Putin, 70, fell down the stairs of his official residence in Moscow, and would have been left. with bruises on the coccyx. And it is from this same social network where most of the speculations have arisen, which are later disseminated by the media around the world, from Europe to the US, in newspapers such as the New York Post, The Mirror, by example.
However, none of this information is official and the fact that Telegram allows the administrators of each channel to remain anonymous makes the social network prone to misinformation. Following this latest rumor, the US magazine Newsweek contacted Putin’s press offices and the embassy of the Russian Federation in the US for clarification, but has not received any response so far.
The military offensive launched on February 24 by Russia in Ukraine has already caused the flight of more than 13 million people -more than six million internally displaced persons and more than 7.8 million to European countries-, according to the most recent data. of the UN, which catalogs this refugee crisis as the worst in Europe since the Second World War (1939-1945).
The Russian invasion – justified by Russian President Vladimir Putin as the need to “denazify” and demilitarize Ukraine for Russia’s security – was condemned by the wider international community, which has responded by sending arms to Ukraine and imposing them on Russia in political and economic sanctions.
The UN presented as confirmed since the beginning of the war 6,655 dead civilians and 10,368 wounded, stressing that these figures are far below the real ones.
