Spain’s postal service this Monday discovered three suspicious envelopes marked with animal eyes addressed to the Ukrainian embassy in Madrid and the country’s consulates in Malaga and Barcelona, police sources revealed.
The envelopes were detected this morning by the company’s security systems, which reported the fact to the National Police.
Authorities ruled out the presence of explosive or explosive substances and verified that the envelopes contained animal eyes.
Some characteristics of the envelopes are similar to the envelope received last Friday at the Ukrainian embassy in Madrid and to those received at other embassies and consulates of that country in different parts of Europe, according to police sources quoted by the Spanish agency EFE .
After what happened on Friday, the National Police sent details of the envelope to the post office, which helped with Monday’s interceptions.
Also in Portugal, the Ukrainian embassy in Lisbon received two suspicious envelopes this Monday afternoon and called the PSP, who went to the location with the help of the special police unit, a police source told Lusa.
The Ukrainian embassy in Lisbon confirmed to Lusa that it had called the public security police after identifying “suspicious correspondence”.
These episodes take place after six letters with traps were sent in Spain, the first of which was sent to the Moncloa Palace (seat of the Spanish government) on November 24 and addressed to the Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez.
Others were received by the Ukrainian embassy in Madrid on Wednesday and by the US embassy on Thursday.
Captured letters were also sent to the Spanish Ministry of Defence, the Satellite Center at Torrejón de Ardoz Air Base (Madrid) and the Instalaza arms company in Zaragoza.
Only one of these booby-trapped packages caused a minor injury, when a Ukrainian embassy employee opened the envelope and suffered a hand injury.
Tax sources indicated this weekend that the six envelopes came from Valladolid and from the same author, although he has not been identified so far.
Spain’s interior minister on Friday recommended that the European Commission and partner countries take action if they receive booby-trapped letters, similar to those sent to various entities in Spain, admitting they may be linked to the war in Spain. Ukraine.
