The Vatican launches a campaign to donate thermal sweaters to Ukrainians

The Vatican launched on Tuesday a campaign to collect thermal sweaters to help the population of Ukraine who have suffered with the arrival of winter in the northern hemisphere and with the war with Russia.

“The Ukrainian people are experiencing an emergency linked not only to the war, but also to the lack of electricity, gas and the cold of winter. We can help them this Christmas by offering them thermal sweaters, suitable for maintaining body temperature, for men, women and children,” Cardinal Konrad Krajewski, Pope Francis’ beggar, said in a published statement.

“Whoever wants can join this initiative by buying and bringing/sending the shirts directly to this Dicastery within a month, so that they can be sent to Kiev as soon as possible,” he added in the statement.

Konrad Krajewski, in office since August 2013, has traveled several times to Ukraine, as a special envoy of Pope Francis, to bring comfort and humanitarian aid to the population.

On his last trip, in September, the Polish cardinal escaped unharmed from a shooting in the Ukrainian city of Zaporizhia.

Earlier, in March, he traveled to the Ukrainian city of Lviv, in the west of the country, to launch a humanitarian operation.
