Emmanuel Macron spoke by phone this Sunday with Volodymyr Zelensky to prepare the new conference in support of Ukraine to be held on Tuesday in Paris, both leaders reported.
“Meeting the needs of Ukraine”
“With President Zelensky, we have prepared the conferences that France is organizing on Tuesday: a first, international, to meet Ukraine’s needs for the winter, and a second with French companies that are involved in the country’s reconstruction,” he said. the French president on Twitter.
“We synchronized our positions ahead of a virtual G7 summit and support conference in Paris. We discussed the implementation of our 10-point plan for peace, defense cooperation and energy stability,” the Ukrainian president also tweeted.
Ukrainian Prime Minister in Paris
Volodymyr Zelensky will speak on video during this conference on Tuesday “for the resilience and reconstruction of Ukraine”, while his prime minister will be present.
According to the Elysee, “heads of state, heads of government, ministers” from 47 countries will participate, as well as the Secretary General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres.
The conference comes after statements by Emmanuel Macron, who stressed in early December that it would be necessary to give Russia “guarantees” to find a good balance, once the war in Ukraine ends.
Some Ukrainian personalities and Eastern European officials expressed some annoyance, even outright opposition to these comments. But the Elysee ruled out any bilateral tension.
Putin recognizes the need for an agreement to end the conflict
Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Friday that an agreement “in the last resort” would be necessary to end the conflict in Ukraine, while expressing doubts about the “confidence” that Moscow can, according to him, give its interlocutors.
Volodymyr Zelensky himself proposed a 10-point peace plan in mid-November, ranging from territorial integrity to the fate of prisoners, including food security in Ukraine.
Emmanuel Macron announced in early December that he would speak “soon” with Vladimir Putin, in particular on security issues around “civilian nuclear” in Ukraine.
