Ukraine’s air defense system shot down “a total of 13 drones” launched by Russia during an attack on kyiv on Wednesday morning, Ukrainian head of state Volodymyr Zelensky said.
“The terrorists started with 13 Shahed,” Zelensky’s message reads, referring to Iranian-made “kamikaze drones” (unmanned aerial devices).
According to provisional information, “a total of 13 drones” were shot down by the anti-aircraft defense system, added the Ukrainian president in the same transmission through social networks.
Before, the mayor of kyiv had already indicated that there had been several explosions in the Ukrainian capital.
“Explosions in the Shevchenkivsky district. Services [de emergência] they are on their way”, Vitali Klitschko wrote on the Telegram platform.
The official added at the time that the air defense system had shot down 10 Iranian-made drones over kyiv and around the capital.
So far, the authorities have not registered victims, while the capital’s military administration indicates that the debris of a drone damaged two administrative buildings.
For several weeks now, Russia has regularly carried out attacks against the energy infrastructure in Ukraine, preventing millions of people from accessing electricity.
