Netflix has suspended shooting for the new season of ‘The Crown’

Netflix has temporarily suspended the sixth season of the series “The Crown” after the death of Queen Elizabeth II, the streaming platform announced Friday.

The hit series, which depicts the life of Queen Elizabeth II who was faced with the disproportionate task of running the world’s most famous monarchy for decades, organizing scandals, political crises and the relationship she had with her husband Philip.

The sixth season is currently being filmed.

“As a sign of respect, the shooting of the series ‘The Crown’ has been suspended today,” a Netflix spokesperson told Agence France-Presse (AFP).

Shooting will also be suspended on the day of Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral, the same source added.

This week, many of those in charge of the streaming platform are taking part in the Toronto International Film Festival.

The multiple Emmy-winning series, the equivalent of American television’s Oscars, debuted its first season with Elizabeth II’s marriage to Prince Philip in 1947.

Queen Elizabeth II died at the age of 96 at Balmoral Castle in Scotland, after more than 70 years of the longest reign in British history.

Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor was born on April 21, 1926 in London and became Queen of England in 1952, aged 25, after the death of her father, George VI, who took over when her brother abdicated.

After the death of the monarch, her eldest son, aged 73, takes on the role of king as Charles III.
