Kyiv announces the release of 64 Ukrainians and one American during an exchange with Russia

“64 soldiers of the Ukrainian armed forces, who fought in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions, in particular (…) are returning home,” the presidential chief of staff, Andriï Yermak, greeted on Telegram, specifying that an American , Suedi Murekezi, “was also released” in the exchange.

According to the Russian news agency Tass, Suedi Murekezi was arrested in June in eastern Ukraine before being charged in early August with “participating in pro-Ukrainian and anti-Russian demonstrations” and “inciting the hate race” in Kherson (south). at the beginning. of the conflict

For his lawyer, quoted by Tass at the time of his accusation, he was at these gatherings “by chance”. His client “never participated in military operations” in the Donetsk region, he said, adding that she “worked in a nightclub in Kherson.”

This city was retaken in early November by Ukrainian forces after a counteroffensive that lasted several weeks.

During the exchange on Wednesday, four bodies “were also returned,” Andriï Iermak added.
