Forty Portuguese citizens are stranded in Peru due to instability in the country, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MNE) announced Thursday.

“The MNE is aware of 40 Portuguese citizens, who are in the regions of Cusco, Arequipa and Águas Calientes (Machu Pichu), retained due to the closure of airports and road and rail traffic,” the ministry advances in a statement, guaranteeing that “all the indicated citizens are safe” and in permanent contact with the authorities.

Among the 40 Portuguese there are ten young people who traveled to Peru in the last week, including a group of seven, held in Arequipa, and another of three, in Aguas Calientes, according to what the parents of the young people told Lusa.
