There is a new court case involving the name of Eva Kaili, the Greek MEP arrested on Friday and remanded in custody since Sunday, on suspicion of involvement in a criminal scheme with links to Qatar. The new investigation implicates another Greek MEP and the two largest political families in Europe.
There are suspicions of fraud with public money, based on the management of subsidies intended to pay parliamentary assistants accredited in Strasbourg.
In a statement, the European Public Prosecutor’s Office announces that it “required the lifting of the parliamentary immunity of MEP Eva Kaili” from the Greek party PASOK, a member of the European Socialist family, and also of “MP Maria Spyraki”, who is a member of the New Democracy party, than the EPP group.

The two cases are related to “suspected fraud against the EU budget”. It deals with the management of public money, related to the “parliamentary subsidy for the remuneration of Parliamentary Assistants accredited in Strasbourg”.
This is a new case involving MEP Eva Kaili, who has been detained since Sunday, after being arrested in flagrante delicto, on suspicion of corruption, money laundering and criminal organization, with alleged links to Qatar.
The new case of alleged fraud with European money, involving Greek deputies from the two largest European political families, is part of the report of an investigation by the European Anti-Fraud Office.
In a brief statement, the European Public Prosecutor’s Office, which has already requested the lifting of the immunity of the two MEPs, stresses that, until a final sentence is reached, both Eva Kaili and Maria Spyraki must be considered “presumably innocent”.
